Concept

Cracking moment — where it appears

The bending moment at which a concrete section's extreme tension fibre reaches the tensile strength, equal to that strength times the gross section modulus. It contains no reinforcement and no applied load, and the requirement that the cracked section be able to beat it is where minimum reinforcement comes from.
