Shear modulus — where it appears

The ratio of shear stress to shear strain, which for an isotropic material follows from the Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio at about two fifths of E. It sets a member's shear deflection and appears wherever a section twists, and for timber it is a sixteenth of E rather than a fortieth.
